Authentic Native American Art
Navaho 1883

In 1883 a Navaho craftsman brought this sand painting from the spirit world into this world as a floor cloth. Mary Beth, "Woman Who Swims with Fire," brings it into the 21st century. This floor cloth appears to reflect a parallel universe that illustrates the interconnectedness of life. Each dress is different suggesting individuality. The southeastern Indians interpret the red and white bands around the outer edges as the "war loving people", symbolized by red and the "peace loving people", symbolized by white, both embracing life.
