Authentic Native American Art

In the 1700's Adair, an early historian recorded that the Cherokee made floor cloths. Mary Beth, "Woman Who Swims with Fire," has carried this craft a step further and handcrafts wall hangings and placemats. Depicted here is "Rooted." It is a celebration of motherhood carved into the rock face at Rocky Hill in Tulare County, California. Notice the exaggerated fingers and toes of this petroglyph. It appears that ancient Native Americans left this rock art as if to say, "We passed this way once and we are human beings. See, we have ten fingers and ten toes and our babies do too!"

Slip your own decorative dowel through the loops to hang this art. In the floorcloth gallery you will see other possible designs to be made into wall hangings or placemats.
